We
are looking for emerging playwrights of international origin who
are resident in East London. Writers must be 18 or over and plays will
be read in all languages as well as in translation.
Entries:
Writers must submit at least three
scenes of an unperformed play with no more than 5 characters. The deadline
for submission is 2nd Febuary 2008 and plays should be sent to:

What happens next:
Plays will be read by both English and foreigh language speaking practitioners
and a panel of leading theatre professionals will decide which play will
be selected for production. The pane includes:
Dominic Dromgoole (The Globe)
Indhu Rubasingham (The Royal Court Theatre)
Chris Campbell (The Royal National Theatre)
Dianh Wood (Faber & Faber)
Roy Williams (The Royal National Theatre)
We will select 5 writers to work
with a full professional team to develop a public theatre production at
Hackney Empire Studio in 2008. All plays will be performed in English.
In the build up to the production selected writers will receive sessions
with established playwrights, tickets to see new plays in London, guided
tour of the Hackney Empire by theatre practitioners and development sessions
with directors and translators as needed.
